This webinar is the final session devoted to the practical guidance published in Austroads’ report Sustainable Roads Through Fit-for-purpose Use of Available Materials.

The report provides step-by-step guidance to help road agencies undertake a material risk assessment for roads and identify practices or design and construction considerations which may reduce risk and expand fit-for-purpose material options.

This webinar will look specifically into the use of the life-cycle costing framework and the important components that are considered for the assessment of an unsealed road.

Special guest speakers from ARRB’s Asset Management team and from a Council organisation will also provide greater detail into the life-cycle costing examples through the presentation of several case studies.

There will also be question and answer opportunities throughout the session.

Presented by Tyrone Toole and Lory Noya.

Tyrone Toole’s experience covers highway engineering and management projects, and institutional development and training in over 20 countries. He specialises in the management and delivery of multi-disciplinary projects, and has extensive experience in research and advice related to the management and design of low and high-volume roads.

Having joined ARRB in 2001 following over 20 years with TRL’s Overseas Unit, he continues to contribute across a wide range of topics including road performance studies, the use of non-standard materials, development of road management systems, the marginal cost of road wear, and the economics of road maintenance. Projects of relevance to the presentation include his experience in Africa and worldwide and in Australia on the use of marginal and non-standard materials, performance of the Queensland state road network and life-cycle cost impacts of rain and flood events in Queensland.

Lory Noya is a Principal Engineer and has worked with the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) in several different capacities since 2000. His early work at ARRB was in Jakarta as a highway engineer for World Bank and AusAID projects. In Australia, he has been involved in the project delivery and management of various research and consultancy projects including maintenance strategy, asset management plan review, asset valuation and dilapidation assessment. Prior to joining ARRB full-time, Lory worked with SKM (now Jacobs Pty Ltd) in delivery management, contract administration and asset management in the local and state government areas. He also has experience in petroleum industry and as a planning advisor for provincial governments.

There is no charge but registration for the webinar is essential.
