Bridges

The Manukau Memorial Gardens Arch is a new road bridge over a small creek to allow expansion of the cities cemetery. The project required careful attention to detail to provide a solution which considered environmental, cultural and technical issues for a sensitive location. The team consulted with a number of stakeholders including, local Maori iwi (tribe), Funeral Directors, the Community and the gardens management to develop the solution of a unique 36m span tied steel arch. It supports two traffic lanes and two cantilevered footpaths of varying width. The bridge was opened in September 2010.
