In conjunction with the recent report Practical Approaches for Managing Regional Road Safety Priorities, Austroads has published Practical Approaches for Managing Regional Road Safety Priorities: Practitioner Resources, which includes a series of factsheets detailing road and transport safety interventions that can reduce fatal and serious injury crashes in regional and remote areas.
“While only a third of Australians live in remote or regional areas, two-thirds of fatal crashes occur in these areas. This means that Australian road users living in these areas are at a far greater risk for road trauma than those who live in our major cities,” said Michael Nieuwesteeg, Road Safety and Design Program Manager at Austroads.
“Selecting and continually evaluating interventions to best serve individual regions' road safety priorities is important. These resources acknowledge the importance of continual review and evaluation of road safety interventions, including using multiple interventions when needed,” said Michael.
Practical Approaches for Managing Regional Road Safety Priorities: Practitioner Resources extracts key details from the project report to give readers quick and easy access to critical information, including the factsheets, prioritisation framework and evaluation framework.
“Prioritising road and transport safety interventions can be a complex process, and providing organisations with appropriate tools to implement and evaluate these interventions can aid in working towards safer roads, vehicles and road users."
