Upgrading prequalification status

A prequalified contractor may apply to upgrade their prequalification status after having successfully completed several projects at their current level.

To upgrade, a new application form must be lodged with the original Assessing Agency.

To be eligible for an upgrade in a road or bridge category, a contractor must be able to demonstrate that their circumstances have changed sufficiently since their last prequalification application was assessed.

It may not be necessary to complete the entire application form and applicants should confirm the requirements for the application with the agency before submitting an upgrade application.

Temporary upgrades for specific projects will not be issued.

If the applicant is granted an upgrade, mutual recognition application(s) will need to be submitted to the other participating agencies.

Prequalification Guidelines

The system is documented in the National Prequalification System for Civil (Road and Bridge) Construction (2022 Edition).
