Austroads’ recent project has updated the Guide to Road Design (AGRD) Part 4 series. This webinar is the second in a four-part series to provide an overview of the project, including the aim, research background, methodology and outcomes.

This session will explain how to implement the changes in AGRD parts 4 and 4A, including pedestrian and railway crossings, horizontal alignment, sight distance, auxiliary lanes, truck acceleration lanes, right turn and left turn treatments.

The webinar will be presented by Noel O’Callaghan and Malcolm Mak.

There will be opportunities for questions and answers at the end of the session.

Noel O’Callaghan is a Principal Professional Engineer in the Transport Safety Team in the ARRB Adelaide office. Noel specialises in road design, having had extensive experience in the South Australian Transport Department. He has been a member of the Austroads Road Design Task Force and the Austroads Safety Barrier Assessment Panel. He has also been involved in reviewing and rewriting some of the parts of the Guide to Road Design.

Malcolm Mak is a Civil Engineer at the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) within the Transport Safety Team. He specialises in road design, road safety and traffic engineering with experience within state and local government. During his time at ARRB he has worked on various Austroads projects updating the Guide to Road Design.
