This report summarises work conducted to establish a compaction procedure for the Austroads asphalt mix design process. Part of the early work examined overseas research and this is briefly summarised to provide supporting evidence as to the correctness of those decisions. The report examines four aspects of the selection process which are information leading to the selection of gyratory compaction as the preferred laboratory compaction method, development of the compaction parameters for mix design, variability in the preparation of samples, differences between GyroPac and ServoPac compactors.
