Operations of automated heavy vehicles in remote and regional areas

Project Number: NEF6029

Start: 1-08-2017
End: 28-09-2018

This project will investigate the boundaries and opportunities of operating automated heavy vehicles (AHVs) in regional and remote areas. Working with the Austroads Connected and Automated Vehicles program, this project will result in a plan for deployment of AHVs in these areas, including meeting regulatory and safety requirements. With on-road trials on the horizon and an increasing demand from operators for the technology, a greater understanding of the use of AHV technology on remote and regional roads is needed. This project may identify areas for regulation that have not been previously considered. The project supports the National Remote and Regional Transport Strategy and Policy Framework for ITS in Australia.
