Maximising value and improving the quality of automated vehicle trials

Friday, 28 July 2023

Austroads has published new guidance to aid with the evaluation and reporting of automated vehicle (AV) trials. The guidance provides organisations developing, approving or delivering AV trials with direction to improve the quality of trials and achieve greater harmonisation across jurisdictions.

There are a growing number of trials testing the infrastructure and operational requirements needed for successful wide-scale adoption of AV technologies. Consistency in their evaluation and reporting is essential to accurately inform future decisions.

“Achieving greater consistency in evaluation and reporting has value for Austroads members, vehicle manufacturers and importers, and the community,” said Geoff Allan, Austroads Chief Executive.

“Consistently high-quality trials can provide approvers and industry with the high-quality data needed to make improved policy decisions, prepare for wide-scale adoption of the technology and build on research findings.”

The guidelines complement and supplement the Guidelines for Trials of Automated Vehicle Trials in Australia published by the National Transport Commission and Austroads in 2020 and jurisdictional guidelines.
