Thursday, 16 November 2023

Louise McCormick, Commissioner for Infrastructure for the Northern Territory, has assumed the position of Chair of the Austroads Ltd Board. This historic appointment follows the retirement of Neil Scales OBE in June, making Louise the first woman to lead the Austroads Board.

Boasting a distinguished career spanning over two decades in both public and private sectors, Louise McCormick has solidified her reputation as a respected Executive Engineer, Chartered Fellow, and Senior Civil/Structural Engineer. Her commitment and expertise were evident during her three-year tenure as Deputy Chair on the Austroads Board.

Geoff Allan, Chief Executive of Austroads, warmly welcomed Louise to her new role, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to the Australasian transport industry.

"Louise's remarkable career and her impactful service on the Austroads Board make her a natural fit for the position of Chair. Her achievements, including the prestigious John Shaw Medal, reflect her unwavering commitment to advancing Australia's roads and her exemplary leadership in the field," said Geoff.

Louise's professional accomplishments extend beyond her recent appointment, earning her accolades such as the Young Professional Engineer of the Year for the Northern Territory in 2007 and the Winner of the 2010 Northern Territory Telstra Business Women's Award for Innovation. Notably, she is only the second woman to receive the esteemed John Shaw Medal.

“With proven experience managing some of the Northern Territory’s largest transport infrastructure projects, Louise has a demonstrated drive to innovate and problem solve in order to keep essential transport networks running in the face of unexpected challenges.”

"As the Chair of the Austroads Board, Louise will provide clear strategic direction, leveraging her wealth of experience to guide the organisation. I am looking forward to working alongside Louise and benefiting from her unparalleled guidance and leadership.

“Neil Scales’ leadership and dedication significantly contributed to Austroads’ success and growth over the past seven years. As Louise takes on this pivotal role, there is a collective recognition and appreciation for Neil's exemplary service," Geoff concluded.
