Austroads continues to strengthen international collaboration with the UK Bridge Owners Forum

Wednesday, 5 July 2023

Austroads has been collaborating with the UK Bridge Owners Forum for over two years sharing good practice, knowledge, and expertise to gain the best outcomes for bridge infrastructure research in Australia, New Zealand, UK, and Ireland.

The UK Bridge Owners Forum brings together 20 member organisations in the UK and Ireland including Transport for London, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Transport Scotland, and the Welsh Government. The forum promotes co-operation, collaboration and partnership amongst bridge owners and managers from across the UK and Ireland. Working closely with the UK Roads Liaison Group Bridges Board, the forum facilitates the sharing of best practice in the design and management of bridges and identifies opportunities for research or improvement in practices.

“Professor Campbell Middleton is the Chair of the UK Bridge Owners Forum, and Laing O’Rourke Professor of Construction Engineering at the University of Cambridge. I am thankful that Campbell is a key international contact for Austroads and our Bridges Task Force. Over the years, he has provided input into our bridge projects, and shared information with us on UK projects, trends, and challenges.” said Ross Guppy, Austroads Transport Infrastructure Program Manager.

“The interactions between Austroads and the UK Bridge Owners Forum have been invaluable in providing us an international perspective for our bridge research program, and the development of our guides.”

“Austroads values knowledge sharing, collaboration, and evidence-based practice. We are continually looking to enhance our international networks, in particular groups with similar aims and objectives.” Ross said.

Professor Campbell Middleton was invited by Austroads to be a keynote speaker at the Austroads Bridge Conference 2022 held in Adelaide.
