Austroads 2022-23 Annual Report marks 90 years of collectively tackling hard issues

Thursday, 9 November 2023

Austroads has published its 2022-23 annual report, which provides a final report on the delivery of the Austroads Strategic Plan 2020-24 and the financial performance of Austroads and Transport Certification Australia (TCA).

This year Austroads marks 90 years of bringing together road and transport professionals and leaders to collectively tackle hard issues. From its inception in 1933, Austroads has had a strong role in developing and applying national standards to improve transport outcomes.

In 2022-23 Austroads increased the number of implementation projects it is undertaking on behalf of member agencies and the Austroads Board. These projects assist member agencies to reform practice. The projects to deliver reforms to temporary traffic management and heavy vehicle driver licensing are well advanced.

Another significant achievement included working with member agencies to establish a vision and mission for AusRAP – the Australian version of the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP). AusRAP will play a significant role in building a path to zero road deaths and serious injuries.

The number of vehicles enrolled in the National Telematics Framework schemes has grown by nearly 35% and a number of industries have volunteered data because of the insights delivered by our Telematics Analytics Platform.

Austroads performance measures are healthy and as the organisation is positioning itself to become the leading provider of transport information and services, it has been seeking advice on structural and operational improvements.

“The Austroads Board has high expectations of the organisation because our people continue to deliver exceptional outcomes. We are seeking actions to support sustainable improvement and deliver better processes, better systems and better management of technology and data,” said Austroads Chief Executive Geoff Allan.

Geoff Allan welcomed the leadership of Austroads new Chair Louise McCormick, Infrastructure Commissioner at the Northern Territory Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics. Louise is the first woman to chair Austroads and played a significant role in helping lead our organisation in her time as Deputy Chair.

Geoff Allan also acknowledged the tremendous support of Neil Scales, immediate past Chair of Austroads. “Neil has been a good leader. He has helped shape and mature Austroads. His trust in the organisation and its people has provided us with the confidence to continue to do even better work.”
