Austroads has recently updated Guide to Road Tunnels Part 2: Planning, Design and Commissioning with expanded guidance on pavement design.

An increased number of road tunnels have been constructed in Australasia over the last decade and this has driven the need for additional guidance about pavement design practices which differ from those used for surface roads.

The new content covers the impact of the tunnels structure on the pavement type, design traffic, wearing surface, the tunnel environment, surface and subsurface drainage, and the design of pavements. The guidance material draws on information from  the Guide to Pavement Technology series.

This webinar will give you an overview of the key changes to the Guide.

You’ll learn about:

  • the design criteria for pavements in tunnels
  • how the pavement may form the tunnel floor structure
  • typical pavement profiles in tunnels
  • the common pavement wearing surfaces
  • allowances to consider for the construction and maintenance of the tunnel and pavement.
