This report provides the outcomes of a Safe System review of the Austroads Guide to Traffic Management (AGTM). The AGTM is a series of documents providing guidance for practitioners involved in traffic engineering, road design and road safety, and addresses treatment selection, such as intersection treatments, therefore plays an important role in influencing treatments used on road networks.
Strengthening the guidance relating to treatments and their likely effectiveness in alignment with the Safe System philosophy presents an opportunity to integrate Safe System into traffic engineering and management activities.
The report demonstrates where there is an opportunity to further embed Safe System into the AGTM series based on recent research and presents new and revised content to address many of the safe system gaps in the AGTM to strengthen the guidance relating to treatments and their likely effectiveness in aligning with Safe System philosophy.
