The move towards the National Driver Licensing Scheme requires drivers who wish to drive multi-combination (MC) class vehicles to undertake an approved training course. This will require licensing jurisdictions to have a consistent approach to the licensing requirements to cater for this vehicle class. The work in producing this report was initiated to identify the competency standards required to drive multi-combination vehicles and encompassed the development of a suitable training course format based on those competencies. This report should be viewed as providing a framework for teaching base competencies for driving multi-combination vehicles. Individual jurisdictions will need to tailor their course to meet specific jurisdiction requirements such as the use of private training providers, competency-based training, and servicing training and assessment in remote areas. The report is divided into two sections, the competency standards aligned with those already established by Transport Distribution Training Australia and a course format incorporating these standards.
