This document outlines appropriate standards of practice and procedures for the delivery of works by direct management. It assumes that the organisation has a commitment to undertake works using a direct management workforce with appropriate capability, support and development. The document covers the steps following the decision being made to deliver the project using direct management resources, to final handover of the project. It covers why and when to use direct management as a method for delivery. Managing ‘direct management’ delivery is discussed from the point of view of the agency/owner, the direct management organisation (DMO), and finally the project manager responsible for the delivery of an individual project. The project management aspects, which the delivery project manager should take into account, are also detailed.
