This publication describes the development of the flexible overlay design procedures included in the Austroads Guide to Pavement Technology Part 5: Pavement Evaluation and Treatment Design. The origins of two procedures are detailed: a design chart method applicable for pavement that do not contain cemented materials and which have design traffic not exceeding 107 ESA; and a General Mechanistic Procedure applicable to all flexible pavements.
