An inter-laboratory proficiency study was conducted based on the resilient modulus test. Participants from Australia and New Zealand were required to test nine asphalt cylinders prepared by a single laboratory. All participants used a MATTA to determine the resilient modulus but a number of versions of the device were encountered within the study. The variability in resilient modulus between laboratories was estimated to be around 40 percent of gross mean value. This large variability is unacceptable and further work will be required to investigate contributing factors.
