A Proposed Heavy Vehicle Rest Area Needs and Prioritisation Methodology

This report presents a proposed methodology to guide the development of new rest areas and upgrading of existing rest areas. It aims to assist road authorities identify needs for rest areas for heavy vehicles focusing on capacity and spacing requirements. Prioritisation of establishment and/or upgrading of rest areas is based on maximising safety outcomes (in terms of fatigue management) while managing available funding and resources.

This report has been superseded by Guidelines for the Provision of Heavy Vehicle Rest Area Facilities published in January 2019.
