This study investigated decoupling points for large multi-trailer combination vehicles which cannot complete end-to-end journeys. The need for de-coupling is linked to the boundaries of routes/ areas for which limited access is allowed for larger vehicles. This project included reviewing current arrangements in jurisdictions, identifying types of facilities desired by industry, investigating the demand and options for these facilities and assessing relevant economic and practical issues associated with their provision and maintenance. The report focuses more on B-triples than quad-axle b-doubles as currently these vehicles operate on limited networks to support port operations.
