Austroads commissioned ARRB Transport Research in 1998 to undertake an investigation into the economic evaluation of kerb-lane space. The resulting model, ParkLane v1.0, was the first significant attempt at developing a tool to understand on-road parking and its impact on the traffic stream and adjacent land use. From the predominantly theoretical foundation provided by ParkLane v1.0, ParkLane v2.0 has incorporated a number of refinements that result in a more useable and practically applicable parking tool.ParkLane v2.0 provides urban planners and traffic engineers with the capability to undertake quantifiable analyses of the value, in alternative uses, of kerb-lane space on urban arterial roads. It is expected that ParkLane v2.0 will be an additional element in a comprehensive process that considers the economic implications, as well as social and environmental issues, when planning for changes to on-street parking. The underlying software platform for Parklane v2.0 is Microsoft Access. No knowledge of Microsoft Access is assumed or required. ParkLane v2.0 is provided on a floppy disk for PC
