In August 2010, Standards Australia approved the review of the Australian Bridge Design Code (AS 5100). The original scope for the review includes; General reviewing and updating all parts; Updating Part 2 to be realigned to the earthquake code; Updating Part 4 to address new bearing and expansion joint materials; and Updating Part 5 in line with changes to AS 3600. The project is initially expected to be completed in 3 years. The review is being conducted by the Standards Australia Steering Committee BD-090 which comprises representatives from Austroads, State Road Authorities, rail, consultants and contractors. Nigel Powers from VicRoads and the Austroads Bridge Technology Review Panel is an Austroads nominated representative on the BD-090 committee. This paper provides an update on the progress of the project.
