The Frankston Stony Point Rail Bridge crosses over the Peninsula Link Freeway, located on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. In this location the Frankston Stony Point rail line comprises a single bi-directional broad gauge track carrying regional passenger services along the Peninsula and heavy freight services to the port of Hastings. As it is the only line to serve this port the design of the bridge was subject to a number of particular constraints in relation to its rail design interface particularly with regard to potential shutdowns. This paper presents a summary of the design development of the rail bridge and how it has been tailored to suit the requirements of the rail interface in design, construction, operation and maintenance, and for future development.
