The Gerringong upgrade is the first of the three sections of the Princes Highway upgrade between Gerringong and Bomaderry on the South Coast of New South Wales. Roads and Maritime Services contracted Fulton Hogan to design and construct the Gerringong upgrade. SMEC has been engaged as the principal design engineers on this project.A key feature of the $329 million project is an overbridge replacing the railway level crossing at Fern Street, Gerringong. The 347-metre long bridge consists of seven spans varying in length between 44 metres and 66 metres. The constrained site and associated constructability issues led to a design change from a simply supported I girder to a post-tensioned concrete box girder constructed by incremental launching.
