1.2.4 Asset management strategy

The role of the asset management strategy is to outline the agency’s objectives for asset management in the current and future context and the principles, methods and concepts supporting asset management planning. The strategy is the link between the policy and the plan. It provides a better understanding of how to align the asset portfolio so that it meets the service delivery needs of the stakeholders and enables the asset management policy to be achieved. Together with the asset management policy, the strategy provides the line-of-sight; this is essential for effective asset management, because it ensures that all asset management activities at all levels in the organisation can be justified. In some cases, the policy and strategy can be presented in the same document.
