Part 5 of the Austroads Guide to Asset Management (GAM) provides information for asset managers responsible for the management and performance of the road infrastructure to help them to deliver an acceptable, affordable and sustainable level of service (LoS) appropriate for road users and the community.
The purpose of Part 5 of the GAM is to assist asset managers to gain a better understanding of:
- the role that asset strategies play in providing a road agency with a structured direction-focus to guide its actions, and to demonstrate and articulate its stewardship and practice in providing acceptable outcomes to the community
- the processes by which performance-driven asset management strategies are developed
- how asset management strategies give effect to the asset management policies.
Asset strategies are important, because they provide the agency with a framework that guides its actions and enables it to articulate its approach in providing the community with outcomes appropriate to the community.
A summary of the topics covered in this part of the GAM is presented in Table 1.1.
