Agency Management

Comparison of the efficiency and effectiveness of practices used by road agencies to deliver their services can contribute to the identification and implementation of national best practice in this regard. This report is aimed at documenting and discussing the methods used by different States to determine financial and management responsibility for roads. The report first presents the information collected from individual States, and then compares State practices. A list of State and Local Government representatives consulted as part of this review is given as Appendix A, and a list of the written procedures and documents used is given as Appendix B. It should be noted that this report is compiled from research undertaken as part of an Austroads project entitled Road Agency Responsibilities. A second, related report entitled External Input Into Road Strategies has an anticipated publishing date of June 2000.
