Improving the cost effectiveness of foamed bitumen-stabilised pavements

Project Number: TT2046

Start: 1-02-2016
End: 31-05-2021

This project will reduce the cost of foamed bitumen stabilised pavements by maximising the use of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) material. Member agencies need an indication of the likely performance of plant-mixed foamed bitumen materials in combination with RAP and other marginal materials. Local government agencies will also benefit from design guidelines for the use of RAP with other materials.

The research will focus on flexural modulus, deformation, and fatigue performance of foamed bitumen stabilised materials incorporating different amounts of RAP. The project will produce guidelines on the performance of foamed bitumen stabilised materials incorporating RAP material, and laboratory test methods for estimating the performance of specific material combinations for rehabilitation projects.
