The aim of this project is to ensure that appropriate innovative, lower-cost pavement construction methods are encouraged in Australian and New Zealand practice by incorporating them into the Austroads Guide to Pavement Technology. The Guide is an effective means of putting research into practice, with around 15,000 copies downloaded each year.
The project will specifically consider updates to the Guide to Pavement Technology Part 2 and Part 5. It will incorporate research undertaken locally and overseas. For example, South African methods and climate are similar to Australia and New Zealand, so their new manual on mechanistic pavement design methods may contain innovations that can easily be incorporated into Austroads procedures.
