The objective of this project is to provide a summary of the current practices employed by road managers when assessing the impact of Performance Based Standards (PBS) vehicles on a pavement. The outcomes of this review will support the design of a nationally consistent infrastructure assessment guideline aligning with the PBS reforms proposed by the 2018 NTC review of the PBS scheme.
The project method comprises four main parts:
- Definition of context and issues, including a review of review of PBS pavement impact assessment methodologies
- Consultation with state road agencies and local governments regarding the approach and methods utilised to assess the impact of PBS vehicles on their pavements
- Development of guidelines to assist local governments in assessing the impact of PBS vehicles on pavements.
- Production of a synthesis report and accompanying webinar.
