Standards Australia – bitumen and related materials for roads

This project will extend by two years (until June 2020) the work conducted in Austroads Project TO1993 Standards Australia – bitumen and related materials for roads. Australian road authorities purchase over $600m worth of bitumen and related materials annually. Australian bitumen refineries are closing, and we are becoming more reliant on imported materials for road building and maintenance. The current standards used to determine the suitability of these materials for road construction are out of date. New standards are needed that include a balanced point of view about the current use of materials for road building and maintenance.
