The regulation of vehicle registration is the responsibility of individual state and territory governments. The Registration and Licensing Task Force is represented by all jurisdictions who consider vehicle registration practices across Australia. The work undertaken by the Task Force includes written-off vehicle criteria, best practice principles for written-off vehicle identity and safety inspections, the promotion of harmonisation and consistency for vehicle registration across Australia and facilitating collaboration between jurisdictions. The key aims of the Task Force is to ensure the integrity of the vehicle registration system through the principle of one vehicle; one VIN, the safety of the vehicles in the Australia fleet and promote the use of environmentally friendly vehicles.
